BOYS GOLF: Caledonia/Spring Groveís boys golf team finished fifth out of six teams in the Southeast Invitational at Lake City on May 17.
Rushford-Peterson won with 322. C/SG had 381, one behind Wabasha-Kellogg and 9 better than last-place Plainview.
Kyle Runningen led the team with 93 in the 18-hole tournament. Tyler Schulte had 95, Alek Eglinton 96, Chad Tilleraas 97, Craig Loeffler 98, and Mitch Massman 102.
ìThe team improved on their performance from the week before when we were at Lake City,î coach Mitch Mullins said. ìWe improved and yet we feel we can improve even more.î
C/SG played its final home meet of the season the day before at Ma-Cal Grove, losing to Southland/Grand Meadow 182-159.
Eglinton led the team with 44, followed by Tilleraas 45, Runningen 46, Schulte 47, Loeffler 49, and Massman 55.
ìWeíre keeping our scores down from what they were in the early season,î Mullins said.
The JV shot a 204, losing to S/GMís 188. Garrett Cross led the team with 45, followed by Jeremy Myhre and Luke Daleyís 50s, Riley Benson 59, and Greg Schleich 61.
C/SG ended its regular season with a 1-9 mark in the Three Rivers Conference. Chad Tilleraas finished 20th in individual rankings with an 11.05 differential. Other team memter standings were: Mitchell Massman, 25th, 12.14; Tyler Schulte, 26th, 12.45; Alek Eglinton, 28th, 12.68; Kyle Runningen, 31st, 14.58.

178 against Chatfield
Caledonia came close against Chatfield, losing 178-172 on a cool and cloudy day.
Tilleraas and Loeffler led the team with 44s, one stroke better Massman, Eglinton, and Tyler Schulte.Runningen shot 50.
The Warrior JV defeated Chatfield, 189. Daley led the team with 44, followed by Fisch 45, Cross 48, and Myhre 52.
ìOur scores were real consistent against Chatfield,î Mullins said. ìThis is great. Our team is young and we have shown improvement.î
ï Up next: The Warriors had a home meet against Southland on May 16, and wrapped up their regular season play on May 17 Southeast Minnesota Invitational. The sub-section tournament is May 24 at Cedar River Golf Course in Adams.
TRACK:
Chris Jandt took home two first place medals in a five-way track and field meet in La Crescent on May 17.
Jandtís long jump of 19'07.50 landed him in first place and was among the top ten finishes since 1999. Brandon Skifton was seventh in that event with a long jump of 17'08.75.
Jandtís score of 42'01.50" in the triple jump put him in first place and was among the top 10 in the history of the meet. Skifton was third in the long jump with a score of 38'.
The relay teams faced stiff competition and the Caledonia/Spring Grove/Mabel-Canton team ended the day with two firsts and a third.
The 4x100 meter relay teamís time of 45.00 earned it first place and was among the top 10 scores since 1999. The ìCî team was fourth in that event at 50.65.
In the 4x400 relay, C/SG/M-C took another first with a time of 3:36.92.
The 4x200 relay team took third with a time of 1:35.03. The ìBî teamís time of 1:45.35 put it in fifth place.
C/SG/M-C placed six runner in the top ten in the 100 meter dash. Travis Steele beat Dion Mauss of La Crescent, who set a field record earlier this season. Steeleís time was 11.53.
In third place was Clint Grabhorn with a time of 11.83. Karl Klug was fourth with 12.06; Kevin Klug was fifth with 12.16; Phil Guillien was seventh with 12.18 and Derek Lager had a time of 12.21 for eighth.
Lager was third in the 200 meter with a time of 24.48, and Brandon Skifton was sixth with 24.99.
Luke Nelson took first in the 400 meter with a time of 53.75. Phil Guillien was third with 54.55 and Dan Fishell was fourth with 56.42.
In the 800 meter run, Ryan Mehus was fifth with a time of 2:34.96.
In the 3600, Alex LeFebvre was seventh with a time of 5:20.72.
In the shot put, Andrell Hudson was sixth with a throw of 37'02.00. Chris Summers was tenth with a distance of 31'10.00.
Girls compete at La Crescent Invitational
Caledonia/Spring Grove/Mabel-Canton had the top four finishers in the 100 meter dash at the La Crescent Invitational.
Molly Furlong finished the race in 13.60 for first. Alecia Fruechte was second with a time of 13.62. Rayauna Benson and Laquita Becker each finished in 13.83. Caitlin Myhre was seventh with 14.56, and Amelia Lidstrom had a time of 14.59 for eighth place.
Sarah Colleranís finish of 1:02.00 in the 400 meter put her in the top 10 since 1999. She was second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.48. Laquita Becker took fourth with a time of 28.47 in the 200, and Rayauna Benson was seventh with a time of 29.07. Emily Deneen took eighth with a time of 1:07.15.
In the 800 meter, Evelyn Genadek was seventh with 2:40.44
Allison Wagner came in third in the 1,600 meter. Her time was 6:17.80.
Katie Wiste was third in the 3200 meter run. She finished in 14:02.74
Alecia Welscher was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 20.68, and Brooke Christian was sixth with 21.62.
The 4 x 100 relay team of Molly Furlong, Alecia Fruechte, Sarah Colleran, and Brianna Polus took second with a time of 51.28, one of the all-time top 10 scores for the event. The first-place La Crescent team set a field record of 50.88.
Brianna Polus fell short of her field record of 5'8" in the high jump, but still took first place with her effort of 5'6". Alecia Fruechte was tied for third at 4'10".
Evelyn Genadek was sixth in the long jump with a distance of 13'11". Caitlin Myhre jumped a distance of 13'06" for ninth place.
In the triple jump, Katie Wiste was third with 32'05". Evelyn Genadek had 30'06.75" for fifth place.
Amelia Schaller had two first place finishes. She threw the shot put 34'11.25". Molly Schaller took third with a throw of 34'05.25".
Amelia had a top 10 score and first place finish in the discus, throwing 117' 10".
GIRLS GOLFCaledonia/Spring Grove closed out its regular girls golf season with an impressive 164-229 victory over Kingsland at Ma-Cal Grove in Caledonia on May 20.
Coach Ken Van Den Boom said it was a great team score, and maybe a new record for the course.
Jacquelyn Hauser led the team with 39, followed by Meghan Burg 41, Katelyn Hauser and Heidi Welscher 42, Janelle Lilliquist 48, and Maggie McCarthy 51.
ìAwesome final round for the regular season,î VanDenBoom said. ìWe look forward to the tournament season.î
The C/SG junior high team had a good showing at its conference meet at Lewiston on May 20 in Lewiston. Three eighth grade players finished in the top four. Heather Kuecker was second with 48, Sammi Ellingson was third with 52, and Sara Eppen was fourth with 57.
ìThree girls that have worked on their games very hard,î Van Den Boom said. ìGreat group to work with.î
Four Warrior seventh graders took the top four places. Samantha Meyer was first with 55, Abby Schulte was second with 58, Marissa Bruening was third with 61, and Emily Klug was fourth with 69.
ìGood scores by the youngest girl golfers,î Van Den Boom said. ìThese girls have made a lot of progress during the season.î
Coming up: The team played in the Sub-Section tournament on May 24 at Cedar River Golf Course in Adams on May 24. The section tournament is on May 31 at Lake City. Five girls and the winning team advance from each level to the next. The state tournament is at Izatys on June 8 and 9.
SOFTBALL:Spring Grove/Caledonia earned a tie with Houston as Southeast Conference champions with a 11-1 victory over Glenville-Emmons on May 17.
The Lions scored six runs in the fifth inning to secure the win by the 10-run rule. Jordan OíHeron fueled the fire with a 3 for 4 performance, including a 2-run homer in the second inning and the game-winning double in the fifth.
Vanessa Augedahl went 2 for 4 and scored twice. Jane Pettit, Cassie Gran, and Mariah Conway had triples. Every starter scored a run.
Cassie Gran got the win with a 3-hitter. She had good control and worked out of some jams, coach Michelle Anderson said.
SG/C won the next day too, beating LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow 9-3 at home. Gran got the win again, giving up 4 hits, 1 earned run, and striking out 7. She helped her cause with a three-run home run in the first inning.
Ashley King drove in a run in the fifth inning with a triple. Augedahl, OíHeron, A. Ideker, and Carrie Otterness had singles.
The Lions fell in the first round of sub-section play, losing to La Crescent 3-1 in Spring Grove. (See related story).
