Alma Hagen
Alma Beatrice Hagen, 92, of Spring Grove, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove.
She was born October 26, 1912 in Spring Grove, to Lars and Christine (Larson) Sylling. She was baptized on November 24, 1912 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove by Rev. A.O. Johnson, and was confirmed by Rev. O.M. Mikkleson.
Alma graduated with honors as Valedictorian of her class from Spring Grove High School in 1929. She also graduated from Spring Grove Normal Training, and taught schools in Houston County.
On November 20, 1937 Alma was married to James M. Carlton Hagen at Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. O.M. Mikkleson.
The couple farmed in Spring Grove township.
James preceded Alma in death on October 20, 1972. Alma was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School for many years, and being a part of Trinityís womenís groups.
Alma was honored for two awards in l999, she was chosen as Spring, Groveís Mest Hoyaket Dame for their annual Syttende Mai celebration, and she was given Spring Groveís 16th Annual American Education Week Citizen Recognition award for the 1999-2000 school year.
Survivors include two sons, Alfred (Lorraine) Hagen, and Paul (Catherine) Hagen all of Spring Grove; two daughters, Janet (Charles) Carstensen of Rochester, and Alice ìKathrynî (Tom) Lambuth of Lexington, KY; 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister Julia Schroeder of Caledonia.
In addition to her parents, and her husband James, she was preceded in death by her sisters Gina and Cora, and her brother Leonard.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Pastor Stephanie Frey will officiate. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Roble Funeral Service in Spring Grove and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Trinity Church Christian Education Fund.
