BASEBALL:

Caledonia High School went 1 for 3 in baseball last week. They beat Elgin-Millville 18-2 on April 28 in Elgin, after losing 8-2 to Dover-Eyota on April 21 at home; 11-1 to St. Charles on April 19 on the road; and 8-5 to Goodhue on April 26 at home.

BOYS GOLF: Caledonia/Spring Grove defeated Waukon 187-192 in the boys golf meet on April 29 at MaCal-Grove in Caledonia. Mitchell Massman and Tyler Schulte tied for medalist honors with 44s, meaning they were the top overall scorers in the meet. Alek Eglinton and Chad Tilleraas shot 49s, Kyle Runningen had 51, and Tyler Hauser 53.

The C/SG JV lost to Waukonís junior varsity 199-211. Scoring for the Warriors were Erik Fisch 50, Luke Daley 52, Greg Schleich 54, and Craig Loeffler 55.

ìAs a team weíve made some improvement,î coach Mitch Mullins said on May 2. ìIn our last three meets weíve shot our best scores. This past Friday (against Waukon) was a nice win for us.î

In earlier action, the Warriors lost a close golf match to Chatfield on a raw April 26 afternoon at Ma-Cal-Grove, 179 to 191.

The Warrior varsity scores were Alek Eglinton and Kyle Runningen 47; Tyler Schulte 48, Chad Tilleraas and Mitchell Massman 49; and Tyler Hauser 51.

ìWe had five guys in the forties,î Mullins said of the meet. ìThis is a good step.î Mullins added that he was proud of his team for playing under difficult weather conditions.

The JV scored 204. Scoring went as follows: Garrett Cross 49, Craig Loeffler 50, Luke Daley 51, Jeremy Myhre 54, Erik Fisch 56, and Greg Schleich 62.

In another home meet a day earlier, C/SG lost to Rushford-Peterson 164-191. Scoring for Caledonia was Tyler Schulte 44, Tyler Hauser 46, Chad Tilleraas 50, Mitchell Massman 51, Kyle Runningen 52, and Alek Eglinton 53.

The JV scored 209 to the Trojansí 188. The Warrior JV scores were Jeremy Myhre 49, Erik Fisch 50, Luke Daley 54, Craig Loeffler 56, and Greg Schleich 58.

ï Up next: The Warriors traveled to Waukon on May 2, then play at the Lake City Invitational on May 9. The JV hosts Decorah on May 6.

GIRLS GOLF: Caledonia/Spring Grove had all six varsity players in the 40s in their girls golf victory over Waukon and Cresco on April 25.

The Warriors won the meet with 171, Cresco had 198, and Waukon 212. Katelyn Hauser led the varsity with a 40, her lowest score for the season. It earned her the medalist honors, which is the lowest overall score at a meet. She was followed by Kelsey Kruse 43, Jacquelyn Hauser and Janelle Lilliquist 44, Heidi Welscher 47, and Maggie McCarthy 48.

The JV also won with a 215, beating Waukonís 253 and Crescoís 254. Laura Roesler led her team with a 48, followed by Brenda Welscher 52, Kelly Bauer 56, Alyssa Frank 59, Danielle Frank 61, and Clare McCarthy 67.

Caledonia coach Ken VanDenBoom called 171 a very good score. ìThe JV score of 215 is also a good score,î he added.

April 29: C/SG 174, Chatfield 228

The Warriors defeated Chatfield in an away meet on April 29, 174-228.

Once again all six varsity players had scores in the 40s, with J. Hauser and Meghan Burg leading them with 41s to win co-medalist honors. K. Hauser had 45, and H. Welscher, Kruse, and Lilliquist had 47s.

The Warrior JV had 220, which beat the Gopherís varsity score, something that has happened several times this year. M. McCarthy led with 48 and medalist honors. Following her were Bauer 54, B. Welscher 55, Chelsea McManimon-Moe 63, and T. Denning 64.

April 26: C/SG 188, La Crescent 238, Chatfield 249

Lilliquist and J. Hauser led the Warriors with 46s for a victory over La Crescent and Chatfield on April 26 in Caledonia. It was Lilliquistís lowest score of the season at home, and gave her and J. Hauser co-medalist honors. H. Welscher, K. Hauser, and M. McCarthy had 48s, and Kruse had 50.

The JV scored 219. Scoring were B. Welscher 52, Bauer 53, Roesler 54, C. McCarthy, McManimon-Moe 60, D. Frank 62, and A. Frank 63.

ìIt was good to score below 190 on our Ma-Cal-Grove golf course,î VanDenBoom said. ìThe JV continues to shoot great scores, with their 219 defeating both La Crescentís and Chatfieldís varsity scores.î

Coming up: The C/SG junior varsity hosted Decorah on May 3, while the varsity travelled to Waukon. They play at Southland on May 6, then host Kingsland on May 9.

Neither the varsity nor junior varsity have lost a meet all season.

The Spring Grove/Caledonia softball team scored two-dozen runs in five innings against LeRoy -Ostrander/Grand Meadow April 25.

ìOur bats exploded all the way through the line-up,î said coach Michelle Anderson.

Vanessa Augedahl led off the game with a home run. In the second inning, Cassie Gran homered to right and Karla Tweeten hit a home run in the fifth inning. Tweeten also had 5 RBIs. Triples were contributed by Angie Ideker and Jane Pettit. Pettit also had a double and 4 RBIs. The team had four runs in the first ining, six in the second, seven in the third, one in the fourth and five in the fifth.

Both of LOGMís runs came in the second inning.

Pitcher Cassie Gran allowed only one hit.

Jordan OíHeron was 2 for 4 and scored three runs. Cassie Gran was 5 for 5 and scored three runs and had three RBIs.

Cortney Lager was 3 for 5, scored three runs and had 2 RBIs.

Angie Ideker had two RBIs and was one for five and scored three runs.

Mariah Conway was 1 for 4 and scored three runs. Jane Pettit was 4 for 5 and scored three runs.

TRACK: Itís been another cold spring for the Caledonia/Spring Grove track team, with an increase in injuries and several athletes not participating due to the cold.

ìThe meets we are hosting are not scored and because of the cold weather, there were a lot of key people not running,î explained Coach Paul Stevens. ìSome of them had injuries that need to be taken care of now so that hopefully they will be ready for sub-section and sectional meets. But this also gave the coaches and other kids more of a chance to show what they could do.î

At the Logan Invitational, Brianna Polus attempted the long jump and with a jump of 15'9.25", missed first place by half an inch.

ìShe continues to work very hard on lifting in the weight room and this really seems to have helped her so far this year,î Stevens said.

Amelia Schaller continues to excel at the shot put and at the Logan Invitational broke her own school record by two feet with a throw of 37'7". She also set a personal record in the discus at the meet with Rushford Peterson, taking first place with a toss of 119'11.5". She is approaching the school record of 124'.

Molly Schaller set a new personal record toss in the discus with a throw of 104' 5". She came in third. Caitlin Myhre also had a nice long jump of 14' 9" for second place.

ìThe girls are working hard as we are getting closer to conference meets. We will have a lot of meets in the next two weeks and it is important to finalize events for key people, and fill other events with people that will us a chance to score points for team scores. Both the boys and girls should do very well at our conference meets if we have key people stay healthy,î said Coach Stevens.

Girls at La Crescent

The C/SG/M-C girls had two firsts in the 26th annual La Crescent American Legion Invitational on April 29.

In the high jump, Brianna Polus took first with a jump of 5'7", a meet record. Alecia Fruechte was third with 4'11.00".

In the 4x100 meter relay, the Warriors took a first with 52.84. Team members were Molly Furlong, Sarah Colleran, Alecia Fruechte, and Brianna Polus.

In the 100 meter dash, Polus finished second in the finals with 13.28 behind Alise Duffy of La Crescent, who ran a 13.06.

In the 200 meter dash, Laquita Becker was third with 28.20 and Brittney Wagner was 13th with 1:13.73.

In the girls 400 meter dash, Emily Deneen was eighth with 1:08.47.

In the 1,600 meter run, Katie Wiste was seventh with 14:00.67 and Jody Hempel was eighth with 14:26.96.

In the 3,200 meter run, Evelyn Genedek was fifth with 2:39.56.

In the 100 meter low hurdles, Alecia Welscher was 14th with 26.16.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the Warriors were 11th with 4:57.55.

In the long jump, Alecia Welscher was 12th with 12'04".

In the triple jump, Katie Wiste was third with 31'11". Evelyn Genadek was ninth with 29'04.5".

In the shot put, Amelia Schaller was fifth with 33'07.50". Molly Schaller was sixth with 33'00.25".

In the discus, Amelia Schaller was second with 115'00". Molly Schaller was seventh with 95'00".

Boys at La Crescent

The Warrior boys had seven firsts in the La Crescent Invitational.

Clint Grabhorn won the 100 meter dash with 11.42. Travis Steele was second with 11.44. They also finished 1-2 in the preliminaries, with Steele taking first and Grabhorn second.

In the 200 meter dash, C/SG/M-C also had the top two spots, with Andy Marnach first at 23.75, followed by Travis Steele with 23.98.

In the 4x100 meter relay, C/SG/M-C ìBî team was first with 45.82. Team members were Phil Guillen, Clint Grabhorn, Kevin Klug and Karl Klug. The Warriors had another team take third with 47.14.

In the 4x200 meter relay, C/SG/M-C was first with 1:36.46. Team members were Steele, Grabhorn, Marnach, and Guillen. The Warrior ìBî team was fifth with 1:43.01.

In the 4x400 meter relay, C/SG/M-C was eighth with 3:53.79.

In the high jump, Kyle Hunzeker was first with 6'01.00".

In the long jump, Chris Jandt was first with 20'00.50", and David Jergenson was 17th with 15'00.50".

In the triple jump, Jandt was first with 40'11.50".

In the 400 meter dash, Brandon Skifton was seventh with 58.75.

In the 800 meter run, Ryan Mehus was 17th with 2.35.74.

In the 1,600 meter run, Alex LeFebvre was 16th with 5:39.59.

In the 3,200 meter run, Mike Roellich was 10th with 11:01.92.

In the shot put, Audrell Hudson was 13th with 39'05.50" and Chris Summers was 28th with 28'04.00".

ï Coming up this week is a junior high meet against Rushford on May 5 and a meet against La Crescent on May 6. The conference meet is Saturday in Lewiston.
