Bert L. Wagner
Bert L. Wagner, 87, of La Crescent, and formerly of Caledonia and Dakota died on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the Franciscan-Skemp Healthcare Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born on November 5, 1917 in Caledonia to William and Jenny (Thery) Wagner. Bert was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army. On May 14, 1946 he married Caroline Koenig at St. Peterís Catholic Church in Caledonia.
He owned and operated Bertís Barbershop in Caledonia for 35 years and later owned and operated Wagnerís Midway Club in Dakota for 17 years. Bert had served as the Caledonia Village Clerk in the 1960ís and was a contributing member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus in Caledonia for many years.
In addition to his wife Caroline, Bert is survived by ten children; Janice Powell of La Crosse; Bill (Terry) Wagner of West Salem; Nancy (John) Tauer of Apple Valley; Cynthia (Mike) McKenna of Madison, WI; Alan (LeeAnn) Wagner of La Crosse; James Wagner of Brooklyn Center; Julia (Tim) Lee of Nassau, Bahamas; Jane (Daniel) Goetzinger of Caledonia; Kristine (Larry) Williams of Scottsdale, AZ; and David Wagner of La Crosse; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Schwartzhoff of La Crescent and Rachel Keller of Florida, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Cpt. Richard J. Wagner, USAF, four brothers and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 6 at the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent with Msgr. Donald W. Grubisch officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent is handling the arrangements.
