Melvin Brickman
Melvin G. Brickman, 88, of Caledonia, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Caledonia Care and Rehab.
He was born September 7, 1916 in Caledonia to August and Rosina (Feil) Brickman. Melvin attended school in Freeburg, Minnesota and farmed there until 1939. On November 18, 1944, he married Esther Meyer at St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. They farmed in Caledonia township until 1976 when they retired from farming and moved into Caledonia. Melvin then worked for Sno-Pac foods in Caledonia and was caretaker for Evergreen Cemetery in Caledonia until 1996. On March 15, 1998, Esther preceded Melvin in death. In May of 1998, Melvin moved to Brownsville, and on May 15, 1999, he married Kathleen Peeper at Zion Evangelical Church in Brownsville. Prior to moving to Brownsville, Melvin had been a member of St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia and he was currently a memberÝof Zion Evangelical Church in Brownsville. He enjoyed playing cards and watching baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of Caledonia; four daughters, Doris Ann (Brian) Jorstad of Hokah, Doloris ìDeeî (Fred) Benning of Rochester, Darlene ìDarî Brickman of Clarksville, Tenn., and Diane Schmidt of White Bear Lake; three sons, David (Joyce) Brickman of Brownsville, Darrell (Pam) Brickman of Lexington, Ill., and Donald (Tami) Brickman of Hinckley; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Janice (Dennis) Carter of Liberty, MO., Cheryl (Jerry) Halsted of La Crosse, and Paula Peeper of Traer, Iowa; eight step-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dewaine Brickman; and one son-in-law, Dana Schmidt.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Evangelical Church, Brownsville. Rev. Brian Cuda will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
