Wanda Knutson
Wanda M. Knutson, age 61, of rural Houston, MN, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove, MN after a courageous battle with cancer.
Wanda was born September 28, 1943 in Spring Grove, MN to Melvin and Elida (Olafson) Skadsem. She was baptized and confirmed at the Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer in rural Spring Grove. She was a graduate of the Mabel High School, the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, and had later attended Viterbo College in LaCrosse. After working for several years as a secretary in the Minneapolis area, she moved to Anchorage, AK where she was employed for seven years by the U.S. Air Force. After returning to Minnesota in 1971 Wanda worked for 12 years for the Houston County Social Services in Caledonia and most recently for the Fillmore County Social Services in Preston.
On November 16, 1974 Wanda and Dennis Knutson were united in marriage at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer. To this union two children were born, Sharon and Ryan. Wanda was a member of the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, the Yucatan Homemakers, and the Yucatan Reunion Committee, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and photography.
Wanda is survived by her husband Dennis of Houston; a daughter Sharon (Anthony) Gannon of Shakopee; a brother Willis of Spring Grove; a sister Jarla Enstrom of Caledonia, and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her son Ryan; her parents; six brothers Reuben, Myron, Eldor, Melvin Jr., Terry, and Dean; a sister Eileen; and a sister-in-law Mavis.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson with the Rev. Wade E. Davick officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Prairie Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 -6 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Highland Prairie Organ Fund.
