Hokah man hurt in hunting accident

Steven Duane Eisenhuth, 48, rural Hokah, was injured in a hunting accident on November 26.

It occurred at about 5:08 p.m. Saturday evening in Mound Prairie Township. Eisenhuth was taken by MedLink Air to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Houston Ambulance, Houston Police Department, and Hokah First Responders also assisted at the scene.

Houston County Sheriffís Department Chief Deputy Ken Frank said it was caused by an accidental discharge of a shotgun by a member of Eisenhuthís own hunting party.

Frank said the case is under investigation and the report will be reviewed by the county attorney.

Initial injuries appeared to be critical, according to officers on the scene, Frank said. The 9-1-1 call reported that Eisenhuth was shot in the stomach area.

Apparent suicide

Deputies and the Houston County coroner also responded to a possible suicide by hanging on Sunday afternoon, November 27, at 3:25 p.m. It occurred in Houston Township, about a mile northwest of Houston.

The deceased was a 34-year-old male. An investigation is continuing, Frank said, but it is leaning in the direction of a suicide.

Two charged with burglaries

In other sheriffís department news, two Rushford men were charged in Houston County on November 2 with several burglaries that occurred last April.

Andrew Warren Brand, 19, and Justin Lee Kerns, 18, face charges of second and third degree burglary, criminal damage to property, theft, felon in possession of a firearm, and carrying weapons without a permit.

The burglaries of three homes occurred in rural La Crescent and Houston. Captain Gary Eddy of the Houston County Sheriffís Department had previous cases with Brand, so he called Rushford Police Chief Sam Stensgard. Stensgard said that Brand drove a car that matched a description of one seen at the burglary sites. Tire tread marks at the site of one of the burglaries matched the tread on Brandís car. That information led to the arrest of the two men.

Kerns admitted to committing other burglaries with Brand over the previous four weeks for ìfun and games,î according to the criminal complaint.

Brandís first court appearance is December 14 at 9 a.m. in Third District Court in Caledonia. Kernís first court appearance had not been set as of November 23.

Daley hearing set

In court news, a Rule 8 hearing for Anthony Daley, 20, Caledonia, has been set for November 30 at 1 p.m.

Daley was charged on November 18 with first and second degree burglary, criminal damage to property, fifth degree assault, and underaged consumption of alcohol. He allegedly broke down the door to a womanís home and physically assaulted her on November 17.

Daley pleads no contest

Ryan L. Daley, 24, Madison, Wisconsin, pled no contest to reckless homicide on November 22 in Dane County, Wisconsin.

The former Caledonia man bought heroin that killed Sarah Stellner, 20, in Madison on April 26. Two other people have pled guilty in the case, and a third person is awaiting trial.

Daley has not been sentenced yet. He is in jail in Madison. The assistant district attorney will ask that Daley be sentenced to no more than two years in prison and five years of extended supervision.
