Luverne E. Joerg
Luverne E. Joerg, 97, of Preston, formerly of Caledonia, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at the Preston Good Samaritan Center.
Luverne was born November 15, 1907, in Locust, IA, the daughter of Oliver and Frances (Stoskopf) Lien. She was raised on a far in Locust and was a graduate of Decorah High School. She married Leslie E. Joerg August 20, 1927, at Locust and the couple made their home in Spring Grove where she was a homemaker. They moved to Caledonia a few years later where Luverne worked for the Bouquet Dress Shop for many years.
Leslie died September 18, 1977. Luverne became a resident of the Harmony Care Center in 1996 and the Good Samaritan Center in Preston in 1998.
Luverne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge.
She is survived by two sons, Lowell (Terri) of Tucson, AZ, and David (Rita) of Preston; one daughter, Frances (ìMacî) McCarthy of Lake Worth, FL; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Luverne was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 5, at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with Rev. James Rushton officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Spring Grove. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston is in charge of services.
