Joseph Toomey
Joseph A. Toomey, 95, of Brownsville, died Sunday, October 9, 2005 in his home.
He was born in Brownsville on September 14, 1910, to John and Laura (Williams) Toomey. He married Ellen Marie Davy on June 23, 1942, in Minneapolis.
He was honorable discharged from the US Navy after serving our country for 12 years. He also served in WWII. He was a lifetime member of the Le Roy D. Holzwarth VFW Post 6801 in Brownsville.
He is survived by six daughters: Jane Wohlwend of Brownsville, Mary (Wayne) Prax of Eudora, Kansas, Joan (Bob) Strub of Lansing, IA, Laura (Stan) Diersen of Caledonia, Terri (Shawn) Virock of Brownsville, and Renee (Michael) Spinner of Brownsville; two sons, Michael (Terry) Toomey of Caledonia, and Pat (Irene) Toomey of La Crosse, WI; 33 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen Marie on May 15, 1995, one son Ray Peterson, one sister Doris, one brother Gerald and one son-in-law, Virgil Wohlwend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, in St. Patrickís Catholic Church, Brownsville. Rev. Gregory Leif will officiate with burial and military rites by Le Roy D. Holzwarth VFW Post 6801 to be held in Veterans Cemetery, Brownsville.
Friends and family called Tuesday at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. with a scripture service to be held at 7 p.m. Friends and family may also call from 1 p.m. until the time of mass in the church on Wednesday.
The Blaschke Schneider Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
