Hilda Veglahn

Hilda N. Veglahn, 89, of La Crescent, died on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center La Crosse.

She was born in Spring Grove Minnesota on November 11, 1915 to Ole and Inga (Oium) Arneson. Hilda had taught in the ìMud Hillî School house until she married Edwin Veglahn in Spring Grove Minnesota on August 19, 1937. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1990.

Hilda and Edwin farmed in rural La Crescent until 1964. She was a founding member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and member of the Ladies Aid group. For many years, she had worked at the Gateway Transportation Companyís vacation lodge with her sister Manda.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane (Randy) Thorsen of La Crescent; two sons, John (Connie) of Sacred Heart, MN, Jerry (Lynda) of La Crescent, seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her sister and best friend, Manda Veglahn of La Crescent, one sister-in-law Verna Arneson of La Crescent and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Arne, and a sister Irene.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2005 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church La Crescent. Pastor Paul A. Ibisch will officiate. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent on Sunday, from 5 until 7 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 12 noon until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
