Public invited to bike trail meeting in Hokah April 20

An open meeting on the subject of extending and developing bike trails in Houston County will be held Thursday, April 20, 2006, from 6 p.m. at the Hokah Fire Hall

Meetings are continuing for work on a long-range plan for trails in Houston County. The current focus is to extend the Root River Trail from Houston via Hokah and La Crescent to the Wisconsin trails system at La Crosse.

Representatives of cities and townships, snowmobile clubs, private and public landowners, and citizens are welcome.

Ultimately, a county-wide plan is intended to connect all the cities in the county to create a loop with the Root River Trail and the Preston-Harmony Valley Trail. Committees for individual communities are encouraged to form and coordinate efforts with the county trails subcommittee: Tom van der Linden, La Crescent, chairman and Barb Bissen, Hokah, vice chairman.
