Brian Swedberg to run for sheriff

Brian L. Swedberg, 35, a lieutenant with the Houston County Sheriffís Office, has announced that he will be a candidate for sheriff in the general election.

Swedberg has been an employee of the Sheriffís Office for fifteen years. He was initially hired as a dispatcher/jailer. During the time he was a dispatcher/jailer, he continued his education and received an associates degree in police science from Western Wisconsin Technical College and also attended the Rochester Technical College for the Minnesota portion of his degree. Soon after that Swedberg was promoted to Deputy Sheriff and did patrol/civil/criminal duties.

In 2003, Swedberg was promoted to lieutenant. He has also worked as a law enforcement officer for the cities of Spring Grove, Caledonia, Rushford, and the Wabasha County Sheriffís Office.

Swedberg says, ìThe Houston County Sheriffís Office, including the jail, will be going through a lengthy change. And, I am at the right age and experience to best serve the citizens of Houston County as Sheriff.î

Swedberg, his wife, and family have their home in La Crescent. Brian is married to Danielle (Fuchsel), who is also from La Crescent. They have three children: Zachary, 16; Brinli, 2, and Paytience, 7 months.

The current sheriff is Darryl Peterson, who was appointed to the position by the county board to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mike Lee.

Brian is the son of former Houston County Sheriff Dennis Swedberg.
