Maug to undergo
competency evaluation
Judge James Fabian ordered a Rule 20 Evaluation for Leon Cheston Maug, 29, Spring Grove, at an August 14 court appearance.
Maug, who is free on $25,000 bail, faces six felony sexual assault charges. One charge against Maug alleges he inappropriately touched a boy under age 13 while he was baby-sitting the boy in Caledonia, between 1999 and 2001. The other five charges against Maug state that criminal sexual conduct against a girl took place while he baby-sat her in Caledonia and Spring Grove when she was 7-9 years old.
The Rule 20 Evaluation, which is also known as a competency evaluation, is supposed to be completed in 60 days. Once the report is filed with the court, the parties have 10 days to object to the findings. If an objection to the findings is filed, another exam can be ordered to be done by a different examiner.
Another person, Christopher Thomas Peterson, 26, whereabouts unknown, was also charged with two felony sexual assault counts at the same time as was Maug. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
