Survey marker missing; reward offered

The Houston County Sheriffís Department is offering a reward for information about the theft of a survey marker.

The marker was removed from a monument in a field near the driveway at 1485 Pool Hill Road just off Co. Road 2 in Jefferson Township. It occurred sometime between July 20 and August 8.

The actual item taken was a 4" diameter brass cap that was set on the top of a 5 foot underground concrete pillar. The parties that took the cap had to pound or chip away the concrete, destroying the pillar to free the brass cap.

The cap was inscribed with the following on it: ì1954, Elevation Above Sea 1159 feet, 98 WM TT.î

Because of the type of marker, the total cost to replace the concrete pillar, brass cap and the proper setting of the marker will be near $25,000. The replacement and cost will be paid for by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The Houston County Sheriffís Office is investigating and requests that anyone with information about this incident call the Sheriffís Tip Line at 507-725-5122. Callers can remain anonymous and reward will be paid for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in this incident.
