Kelleher honored for service to county

Kevin Kelleher, commissioner from Houston County, was among the three individuals who were recognized with Association of Minnesota Countiesí (AMC) 2006 ëëOutstanding Service Awardsí for exhibiting excellence in their county government positions.

AMC President Nancy Schouweiler, a Dakota County Commissioner, presented the awards at the associationís annual conference December 4 in Rochester. The recipients were nominated by their counties and selected by a committee of county officials, chaired by 2006 AMC Second Vice President Paul Wilson, an Olmsted County Commissioner.

Here is what the nominating committee said about Kelleher:

We the Houston Board of Commissioners would like to nominate Kevin Kelleher for the 2006 Outstanding Service Award. Most of us on the Houston County Board have served with Kevin for 14 years and have seen the commitment he has for the public. He has been very involved with AMC since 1992, serving on many committees, being on the Board of Directors and serving as its President in 1996.

Kevin also served on the NACo Board of Directors since 1998, plus other NACo committees. On the local level, he has served on numerous committees.Ý

Human Services - Served on seven different committees as a board member and/or chairman.

Agriculture and Environment - Served on five different committees over the years.

Transportation - Served on three boards over the past years. He has also been Chairman of the Houston County Board several times.

We have seen Kevin grow and become a very effective leader in not only the community of county government but also in the community where he lives, to the state of Minnesota and beyond. Itís hard to imagine how many people and organizations he has touched, plus his work to help improve the lives of people he probably has never met.Ý

Other recipients were Bob Nelson, veteransí service officer of Aitkin County and Brian Benson, Sherburne County administrator.

AMC is a voluntary statewide organization that assists the stateís 87 counties in providing effective county governance to the people of Minnesota.
