Harold J. Thimmesch
Harold J. Thimmesch, 89 of Onalaska, and formally of Caledonia, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 in the Onalaska Care Center, Onalaska, WI.
He was born April 6, 1917 in Caledonia to George and Lena (Demmer) Thimmesch. On October 28, 1943 he married Wilma Fruechte in Caledonia. He served with the U.S. Army for 4 1/2 years in the European Theatre with the 4th Armored Division, where he received the Bronze Star for his service. Upon his return he worked for many years as a carpenter, building many homes in and around Caledonia. Later he became a custom cabinet maker. He was a member of the Caledonia American Legion Post 191.
He is survived by his wife Wilma of Onalaska, and their children, Karen (Albert) LaFleur of Madison, WI; Rita (Bob) Barris of Holmen, WI; Ellen Schmidt of Onaslaska; Arlene (Roger) Holland of La Crescent; Paul (Connie) Thimmesch of Oregon, IL; George (Sara) Thimmesch of Lake Geneva, WI; and Charles (Laurel) Thimmesch of Hokah; 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Wesley, and one brother-in-law, Don Pfieffer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 19, at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif of St. Mary's and Father Patrick Umberger of St. Patrickís of Onalaska will officiate and burial with military honors by American Legion Post 191 will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call Monday, from 4 to 7 pm at McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, where a prayer service will be said at at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church Tuesday from 10 to 11:00 a.m. before the service.
