Ronald Peter

Ronald R. Peter, 76, of Caledonia, died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Caledonia on April 6, 1930, to Anton and Veronica (Thery) Peter. On September 10, 1955, he married Lorraine Dehning at St. Peterís Catholic Church in Caledonia.

Ronald graduated from Loretto High School in 1948. He then entered the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for four years. Upon his return from the Air Force, he owned and operated Peterís Tavern. He then worked as a carpenter for Becker Lumber Company and Standard Lumber Company. He became a self-employed carpenter and owner of Peter Tile Service until his retirement at the age of 62. He also worked part-time at B & M Service Center.

Ron demonstrated his commitment to the Caledonia community by serving many years as a council member, mayor, volunteer fire fighter, and American Legion Post 191 member. In 1992, he was recognized for his commitment by receiving the Caledonia Founderís Days Outstanding Citizen Award.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lorraine; eight children, Linda (George) Hartl, West Bend, WI; Theresa (Rod) Kleinertz, West Salem, WI; Mike (Dar) Peter, Spring Grove; Tom Peter (Laurie Gavin), Mark Peter, Steve (Nancy) Peter, Marsha (Keith) Vonderohe, and Carla (Tom) Gavin, all of Caledonia; and by 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norman and Ozzie Peter; three sisters, Wilma Klug, Marie Albert, and Erma Lager.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 21, at St Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. Fr Gregory Leif will officiate and burial with military honors by American Legion Post 191 will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, at Holy Family Hall where a rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday.

McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
