Man sentenced for criminal sexual conduct

A La Crosse man will serve at least 15 years in prison for criminal sexual conduct.

Third District Court Judge James Fabian issued the sentence against Roger Lee Olsen on December 13 in Caledonia.

Olsen, 41, was found guilty in August of 12 counts of first and second degree criminal sexual conduct. He assaulted a female under the age of 16 between August 1, 2002, and May 31, 2004.

The court sentenced Olsen on the five most serious counts. Counts 1-3 of the first degree charges carried a 96 month concurrent prison sentence.

Fabian ordered the 96 month sentence of counts 4 and 5 to be served consecutively with counts 1-3. Fabian wrote that this was because of ìthe multiple incidents over 22 months, the threats made toward the child should she report, the position of authority that the defendant found himself in, and the significantly different acts of sexual misconduct.î

The total sentence was 288 months, with 192 months in custody and 96 months on supervised release.

Olsen must also register as a predatory offender.

He will be eligible for release in just over 15 years if he maintains good behavior in prison, Houston County attorney Rick Jackson said.

Burglary suspect arrested

Greggory Alan Bruce, 31, no known address, was charged on December 14 with second degree burglary and felony theft related to a break-in at Good Times Restaurant in Caledonia.

The burglary occurred sometime after 1 a.m. on December 13 after a window was broken on the door on the west side of the business.

A large amount of money was stolen, Caledonia Police Chief Randy Shefelbine said.

The person who broke in located a key inside then found hidden cash, so police figured he or she was a present or past employee. They narrowed the suspect list down to Bruce, who had been fired three weeks earlier.

Bruce was living in Caledonia temporarily, Shefelbine said. Bruceís roommate told police that Bruce had paid his rent in cash on December 13, then said he was leaving the area. He threw his belongs together quickly, leaving behind a television and VCR.

Police contacted local bus and train stations and airports and gave workers a description of Bruce. A transportation company employee spotted Bruce on December 14 after he had bought a bus ticket to Washington State. The worker called 9-1-1, and La Crosse Police located the vehicle and arrested him. He had a large quantity of cash.

Bruce was was extradited to Minnesota on December 14.

ìIíd say in a few hours weíd have never seen this guy again,î Shefelbine said.

Judge James Fabian set unconditional bail at $50,000 and conditional bail at $25,000. Bruceís next court appearance is December 29 at 3:30 p.m. He is currently in the Houston County jail.

Hearing set for Conry

An omnibus hearing for Jason Louis Conry, 23, La Crosse, has been set for December 29 at 3:30 p.m.

Conry was charged on December 8 with raping a woman in her La Crescent home on the night of December 5.

Third degree criminal sexual conduct involves having sexual penetration knowing the person is mentally impaired, mentally incapacitated, or physically helpless.

Judge James Fabian set Conry is currently in the Fillmore County Jail in Preston. His conditional bail is $25,000; his unconditional bail is $50,000.
