Sister Anicetus Cacka

Sister M. Anicetus Cacka, 99, of Rochester died Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Assisi Heights.

Sr. Anicetus was born February 11, 1907 in Odessa, WA and spent most of her young life in the Glencoe, MN area. She entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1926 and made her profession of vows in 1928. For 53 years she taught elementary students in Caledonia, St. Kilian, St. Adrian, Adams, Rochester, Wilmont and Glencoe, all in Minnesota; in Silver Spring, MD; and in Watertown, S.D. She retired from teaching due to ill health and spent 11 years working with refugees in Rochester, helping them with English and other subjects. She received the Minnesota Literacy Council Gold Award in 1986 for her work with refugees. In 1992 she stopped teaching and began a prayer ministry at Assisi Heights.

She was a member of the Franciscan Sisters for 77 years.

Survivors include her Franciscan Community.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Sister was Wednesday, December 6 at the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights.
