Precinct caucuses are March 7
Precinct caucuses will be held on Tuesday, March 7 throughout Houston County.
A precinct caucus is a neighborhood meeting and the first step in the political process allowing citizens to get together to discuss issues and candidates.
Decisions concerning the partyís platform and candidates begin at the precinct caucus, and Minnesotans are encouraged to make their voices heard by becoming a delegate or alternate to subsequent endorsing conventions. Minnesota law recognizes the precinct caucus as the basis of the political endorsement system and governs the operation of the caucus to ensure the openness of the system.
Republican caucuses
The following are the sites of the 2006 Houston County Republican Precinct Caucuses on March 7, 2006. All meeting places will be opened at 6:30 p.m. for registration. The meetings will start at 7 p.m. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
ï Caledonia High School in Media Center: Caledonia Precinct 1, Caledonia Precinct 2, Caledonia Twp, Eitzen-Jefferson Twp, Mayville Twp, Winnebago Twp.
ï Spring Grove High School Media Center: Spring Grove City, Spring Grove Twp, Black Hammer Twp, Wilmington Twp
ï Houston High School Library: Houston City, Houston Twp, Money Creek Twp, Mound Prairie Twp, Sheldon Twp, Yucatan Twp.
ï Hokah Community Center: Brownsville City, Brownsville Twp, Hokah City, Hokah Twp, Union Twp.
ï La Crescent High School Cafeteria: La Crescent Precinct 1, La Crescent Precinct 2, La Crescent Precinct 3, La Crescent Twp.
DFL caucuses
ï Spring Grove High School Cafeteria for residents of Spring Grove City; Spring Grove, Black Hammer and Wilmington Twps.
ï Caledonia High School Commons for residents of Caledonia City; Brownsville City; Eitzen City; Caledonia, Brownsville, Crooked Creek, Jefferson, Winnebago, Sheldon and Mayville Twps.
ï Hokah City Auditorium for residents of Hokah City, Hokah and Union Twps.
ïHouston High School Room 20-for residents of Houston City; Houston, Mound Prairie, Money Creek and Yucatan Twps.
ï La Crescent High School Media Center, residents of La Crescent City and La Crescent Twp.
Constitution caucuses
The caucus for the Constitution Party that had been scheduled for Preston has been changed to Rochester. It will take place at Meadow Park Church of Christ, 1315 SE 6th Ave, at 7 p.m. Call 507-2883584 for more information.
Independence Party
The caucus for the Independence Party is at Winona state University, Student Union conference room, Kyzsko Commons. There is also a ìvirtualî caucus on the internet from February 28-March 7. The web site is www.mnip.org.
Green Party
The Minnesota Green Party Senate District 31 caucus is in Winona at the Madison School gym, 515 West 7th (Wabasha) Street at 7 p.m. For information call 507-452-8232.
