BOYS BASKETBALL: Josh Diersen saw some positives in Caledoniaís 61-42 loss to Dover-Eyota in boys basketball on January 13.
The coach said it was a good test for his team, which went into the road contest with a four game winning streak.
The defeat came between two important wins. Caledonia beat St. Charles 61-42 on January 10 at home, then traveled to La Crescent for a 59-50 win on January 14, which was a makeup game from December 1.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Caledonia girls basketball team was unbeatable at home and on the road this past week. They had a tiring schedule, playing three games in four days: at St. Charles Tuesday, January 10; home against Spring Grove, Thursday, January 12; and home against Dover-Eyota, Friday, January 13.
These wins move the Warriorsí record to 11-3, 8-1 in the conference.
GYMNASTICS: Too many meets have left the Caledonia/Spring Grove gymnastics team with little practice time, and scores have suffered. On January 10, the girls lost a meet to Pine Island 112.050 to 140.4. The highest finish for C/SG was fifth place.
ìThe girls seem to be getting tired with all of these meets and hardly any practice time in between,î said Coach Kim Klopfer. ìWe had a pretty rough meet. Things just weren't clicking for us.î
WRESTLING: A third place finish in the Stewartville Invitational wrestling tournament on January 14 wasnít necessarily bad news for Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston.
The Warriors were without four starters, so getting beat by Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander-Kingsland (GMLOK) and Stewartville was not a surprise, Caledonia coach Jay Tolleson said.
His team ended up with 186.5 points. GMLOK had 223.5, followed by Stewartville with 215.
Caledoniaís other match last week was an easy 51-16 home victory over Chatfield on January 9.
