Chester (Bud) H. Hanson
Chester (Bud) H. Hanson, age 86, of Spring Grove died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born January 14, 1920 in Manchester, MN to Carl Herman and Luella T. (Haakenson) Hanson.
He served with the 9th Airforce Division. On November 11, 2005 he received the Jubilee of Liberty Medal from Gil Gutknecht for serving in the Normandy Invasion.
On January 26, 1951 he married Florence Wangen, she preceded him in death on October 4, 1985; he then married Marie Buxengard Ellingson on July 2, 1988. Chester had been a resident of Spring Grove since 1960, he was the manager for the Spring Grove Telephone Company for thirty years, retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife Marie of Spring Grove; his son Kevin (Debora) Hanson of Whitelaw, WI, and his step-son Randy (Sue) Ellingson of Cresco, IA; his daughter Lynnette Erickson of Spring Grove; three step-daughters Sharon (Davis) Usgaard of Barron, WI, Susan Ellingson of Centerville, IA, and Renee Ellingson of Caledonia; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two sisters Avis Peterson of Albert Lea, and Barb Stensrud of Overland Park, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife Florence, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Military rites provided by American Legion Post #259 of Spring Grove. Pastor Stephanie Frey will officiate. Burial will be in the Trinity Church Cemetery in Sprng Grove. Friends may call Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Roble Funeral Service in Spring Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
