Public health vaccines need to be redone

Revaccination is recommended for people who have recently received a shot for Diphtheria-tetanus, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus Influenza B (HIB), or any required childhood vaccinations from the Houston County Department of Public Health.

The recommendation was made by the Houston County Public Health Department in a January 18 press release. It states that a refrigerator which is used to store vaccines was not maintaining a stable temperature. The vaccines may have been exposed to a temperature that was either too warm or too cold. There is no medical risk or danger to people who received any of this vaccine. However, it may be possible that the vaccination is not fully effective. ìWe have reviewed this matter with the Minnesota Department of Health and the various vaccine manufacturers. Based upon their review, revaccination is recommended,î the released stated.

Houston County Public Health will provide revaccination at no expense to anyone who has recently received a shot for the above-mentioned vaccinations. Individuals who are subject to this recall will receive a letter from the public health department with instructions for scheduling a revaccination. The Minnesota Department of Health has indicated that a person cannot be ìover-vaccinated.î If you have any questions, please contact the Houston County Public Health Nursing Department at (507)725-5810.
