Cora M. Becker
Cora M. Becker, 88, of Caledonia, died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Lake Winona Manor where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Cora was born on July 27, 1917 in Spring Grove, to Andrew and Emma (Rosten) Thorson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1934 and from Spring Grove Teacherís Training Department in 1935. She taught in rural school for 6 years. On December 26, 1938 she married Raphael Becker in Caledonia. Raphael died on February 14, 1963. In addition to farming in rural Caledonia (until 1967) Cora also worked at Mansfield, Control Data and Northern Engraving factories in Spring Grove. Later she worked at several restaurants and at the Health Care Center in Caledonia. She was a member of St. Maryís Church in Caledonia.
Cora is survived by three sons: Charles (Ann) of Pueblo, CO, James (Peggy) of La Crosse, WI, and Eric (Marie) of Egg Harbor, WI, and one daughter, Judi of Winona; a daughter-in-law, Cheri Becker of Trotwood, Ohio. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Carol Gaustad of Spring Grove, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her oldest son Gerald, brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Janet Thorson, sisters and brother-in-laws, Josie and Helmer Erickson, Idella and Herman Schroeder, Edna and Rueben Bjergum, Helen and Arnold Ness and Ernest Gaustad.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 9, at McCormick Funeral Home, 205 East Main St., Caledonia. Sister Michaeline Healy will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home Monday morning before the service.
