Schiltz files for treasurer
Jane Schiltz of Caledonia has filed to run for the position of county treasurer, a post held for more than 20 years by incumbent Audrey Petersen.
ìI have always been told that when you feel itís the right time to run for public office, you should throw your hat in the ring, you should do it,î said Schiltz, a lifelong resident of Caledonia. ìI feel now is the right time for me.î
Schiltz currently manages the AmericInn motel in Caledonia and prior to that worked for many years in banking.
ìI have always worked with financial data,î said Schiltz. ìI worked in the assessorís office when I was in ninth grade. I have a lot of experience.î
Schiltz said she has also served in a volunteer capacity for a number of community organizations, including Founders Days, and has always been designated as treasurer for those groups.
Among the qualities that Schiltz said she will bring to the job are a strong work ethic, financial knowledge, confidentiality, and the ability to get along with people and manage a staff.
Schiltz and her husband, Paul, reside in Caledonia and have two sons, Andy and Doug.
Petersen, the incumbent, was appointed treasurer in 1985 upon the resignation of Stan Harris. She survived a challenge by Robert Zimmerman in 1986 and has won reelection without opposition in every election since.
The general election is November 7.
