Primary election needed for sheriff, commissioner

Filings for school and county offices took place July 3-18.

The sheriff and district two commissioner races will have primary elections on September 12 to narrow the field of candidates to two.

Douglas Ely, Ken Frank, Brian Swedberg, and Peggy Thorson filed for sheriff, a four year term.

For county commissioner district 2, Larry Connery, Tom Knutson, James Schultz, Randy Steinfeldt filed. Incumbent Kevin Kelleher is ineligible to file because he is a candidate for state senate. This is also a four year term.

County filings

Commissioner, district 4 ñ Dave Corcoran, incumbent.

Four other county offices are also up for election: attorney, auditor, recorder, and treasurer. All are four year terms. The filings are:

ï Recorder ñ Beverly J. Bauer, incumbent;

ï Auditor ñ A. Peter Johnson, incumbent;

ï Attorney ñ Richard W. ìRickî Jackson, Jr, incumbent;

ï Treasurer ñ Audrey M. Petersen, incumbent; Jane Schiltz.

For the Root River Soil and Water Conservation Board of Supervisors District #1 ñ Douglas W. Meyer, incumbent; RRSWCD Board of Supervisors District #2 ñ Adolph C. Heimerdinger, incumbent.

Naomi Fruechte, Charlie Wray, and Michelle Werner filed for three of the four four-year school board openings. Joyce Knutson filed for the two-year position. Incumbents Mary Frank and Chuck Schulte did not file. Joyce Knutson was appointed this year to fill the two year position after Mike Novak resigned.
