Grease is the word in Spring Grove
Grease, the hit musical of the 1970s, is coming to the Spring Grove stage as a summer production of Ye Olde Opera House.
The play, about a group of teenagers in the 1950s, was first a Broadway musical and later made into a movie which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.
About 50 people are in the cast this year, said Sarah Holland, a co-producer with Steve Kemp.
ìWe have a lot of people in their 20s playing teenagers, and we turn into kids ourselves when we do this,î she said. Holland also plays the role of Jan in the production.
Audiences will enjoy the teacherís choir which features actual teachers from area schools, including Carol-Sweeney-Marnach, who plays Miss Lynch.
The production includes such popular numbers as ìBeauty School Drop-outî ìSummer Nights,î and ìGreased Lightning.î
This is the third production directed by Kay Cross, the first being ìPaint Your Wagonî 16 years ago.
The musical opens on Wednesday evening, July 12, and runs through July 16. This yearís run adds one performance to the usual schedule.
The play begins at 8:30 p.m. Prior to the play, dinner will be served on the green. Southern Smoke and Chrome of Houston is catering a 50s-diner style meal with burgers, fries, smoked turkey legs, floats and pie. Food will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be reserved by calling 507-498-JULY.
