Eitzen's annual celebration next weekend

Eitzen celebrates its annual Fourth of July Family Fun Fest on July 3 and 4.
The event, sponsored by the Eitzen Lions, actually kicks off on Saturday, July 1, with a classic tractor ride. It starts at 8 a.m. at the fire station, then goes through Spring Grove, Black Hammer, Yucatan, Sheldon and Caledonia before ending at the fire station.
Bring a sack lunch for the noon meal. A meal will be served when it is finished. For more information on this, call Greg Mohwinkle at 319-389-2957.
Monday, July 3 starts at 5 p.m. with a flea market and the opening of food stands and beer garden. A menís softball tournament starts at 6 p.m. A homerun hitting contest takes place after the last game.
At 7 p.m. on Monday there is a tractor pull, sanctioned by the National Tractor Pulling Association. It includes many types of vehicles, such as modified tractors, 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive tractors, 4-wheel drive trucks, and heavy duty super stock and super farm trucks.
The night ends with entertainment by Tumbleweed.
Tuesday, July 4 has many highlights. The Grand Parade is at noon; it is preceded by the Kiddy Parade.
The fireworks, which are at 10 p.m., will again be provided by Bill Moore of Lansing, Iowa, who debuted last year with his company, Above and Beyond Pyrotechnics.
The demolition derbies on Monday are another big draw of the event. The car derby starting at 1:30 p.m. features full size stock, modified, and compact cars. A bigger demolition derby that has combines, pickups, and mini-vans is at 7 p.m.
Throughout the Fourth, many other activities will take place. The softball tournament starts at 8 a.m. with the championship at 5 p.m.
There is a breakfast at 6:30 a.m., a pedal pull at 9 a.m., face painting and balloon animals and games at 11 a.m., a chicken dinner at 11 a.m., free ěKaptin Kirbyî train rides for kids starting at 1:30 p.m., kidsí games at 2:30, a sawdust money pile at 4 p.m., karaoke by Fordyce Brevig at 4 p.m., and a raffle drawing at 9:30 p.m.
