Filing for county, school elections July 3-18

Filings for school and county offices can be done from July 3-18.

Here is a breakdown of the elections.

Houston County

Two commissionersí seats are open: district two, currently held by Kevin Kelleher; and district four, currently held by Dave Corcoran. Terms are for four years. Kelleher is ineligible to file because he is a candidate for state senate.

District two includes the townships Houston, Mound Prairie, Money Creek, Yucatan, Sheldon, and Union; and the city of Houston. District four includes the townships Brownsville, Hokah, and La Crescent; and the cities of Brownsville, Hokah, and La Crescent third precinct.

Five county offices are also up for election: attorney, auditor, recorder, sheriff, and treasurer. All are four year terms.

The Root River Soil and Water Conservation Board has two four year terms open also. They are for district one (Mound Prairie, Union, Hokah, and La Crescent Townships and the cities Hokah and La Crescent), currently held by Doug Meyer; and district two, currently held by Adolph Heimerdinger (Brownsville, Crooked Creek, and Jefferson Townships and the city of Brownsville). Both are four year terms. District two includes the townships of Houston, Mound Prairie, Money Creek, Yucatan, Sheldon, and Union; and the city of Houston. District four includes the townships of Brownsville, Hokah, and La Crescent; and the cities of Brownsville, Hokah, and La Crescent third precinct.

There are five openings on the Caledonia School Board. Four are four-year positions and one is a two-year position. The four-year incumbents are Mary Frank, Naomi Fruechte, Chuck Schulte, and Charlie Wray. Joyce Knutson was appointed this year to fill the two year position after Mike Novak resigned. Schulte has stated that he will not run for re-election.

City elections

Cities with a possible primary have to file during the same filing period as the county. Cities without the possibility of a primary file from August 29 - Sept. 12. Cities all have a mayor up for election for two year terms and two city council positions for four years.
