Fire Saturday injures Hokah boy

A fire on June 3 damaged the Hokah home of Rita Watters and injured a nine-year-old boy.

The Hokah Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call just after 9 p.m. that Saturday night at 19 Como Avenue.

Fire chief Jim Ross said it was contained to a bedroom of two boys ages eight and nine.

The older boy was burned on his wrist and fingers, and was taken by relatives to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Ross said.

Ross said the boys were putting water on the fire when firemen arrived. Firemen knocked the fire down within 10 minutes, Ross said.

There was a lot of smoke damage in the home, and smoke was coming out the windows when firemen arrived, Ross said.

A state fire marshal who visited the house on June 4 is calling the fire accidental, Ross added.
