Carl Schroeder

Carl John William Schroeder,Ý88, of Caledonia, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at Caledonia Care and Rehab.

He was born January 30, 1918, in Winnebago Township, Houston County, to Gustav and Mathilda (Kruse) Schroeder. On November 12, 1950, he married Dorothy Tessmer in Caledonia. Carl was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1941 until 1945 and was alsoÝa member of the VFW Houston County Post 3833. In 1943, he was sent to North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. Carl received five battle stars.

He worked at Land Oí Lakes Creamery in Caledonia. Carl and his wife also owned and operated Schroederís Cafe for six years. He worked at the Caledonia Liquor Store for 18 years.

Survivors include two sisters, Ella Meiners and Amanda Olson, both of Caledonia; a sister-in-law, Helen Schroeder of Caledonia; two step-daughters, Phyllis Klinski of Caledonia and Geraldine Covey of Grand Prairie, Texas; five step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; two sisters, Clara Pohlman and Lillie Traff, one brother, Arnold Schroeder, and two brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev.ÝJon WolffÝwill officiate. BurialÝwill be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia, with military honors by the VFW Post 3833 and the American Legion Post 191 of Caledonia. Friends may call atÝHaugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
