Inmate found hanged
A 39-year-old inmate at the Houston County Jail took his own life on Thursday morning, March 16.
According to the Houston County Sheriffís Office, a jailer found Nathan Holter suspended by a bed sheet in the shower area of the maximum-security cell block at about 10:30 a.m. The Caledonia Ambulance Service reponded and transported the victim to Franciscan Skemp Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at about 11:45 a.m.
According to the sheriffís office, an inmate in the cell next to Holterís was unaware of the incident. Two individual cells share a common shower.
The Winona County Sheriffís Office and Houston County Coronerís office are investigating.
Holter was being held on three separate felony complaints. His bail had been set at $150,000 conditional and $200,000 unconditional, with $35,000 credit for bail posted previously.
