Eleanor Hammell
Eleanor Marie Hammell, age 80, of New Albin, IA, died Monday, March 6, 2006 at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia.
Eleanor was born in rural Lansing Iowa on July 16, 1925 to Patrick and Louise (Cota) Manning. She grew up in rural Lansing and married Earl Francis Hammell on Oct 29, 1946 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Wexford Iowa. They farmed in the New Albin area.
Eleanor is survived by thirteen children; Elizabeth ìBetty Louî(Gene) Pohlman of Caledonia, Gerald Hammell of New Albin, Catherine (Tim) Betzle of Prairie du Chien, WI, Joan (Lyle) Pohlman of Caledonia, Joyce (Paul) Collies of Caledonia, Marion (Charles) Stendel of DeSoto, WI, Marlene (Loren) Springborn of DeSoto, WI, Rosella (Gayle) Noyes of Homer, Jerome Hammell of Waukon, Phillip (Olga) Hammell of Spokane, WA, Ronald Hammell of New Albin, Christina (Mark) Schieber of Caledonia, and Earl Hammell of New Albin; 32 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three siblings, Mary (George) Hammel of Caledonia, Leo (Mary) Manning of Lansing, and James (Kay) Manning of Lansing IA; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Manning of Lansing, Sister Georgia Hammell FSPA of LaCrosse, Pauline Blaskowski of Winona, Esther Walleser of Waukon, Anna Collins of Stillwater, and Alberta (Joe) Troendle of Lansing IA; brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Wilma) Hammell of Denver, CO, James (Ila) Hammell of Eitzen, and Leo Mullarkey of Lansing.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband on July 31, 1968, a grandson Roger Myhre on July 1, 1977; three brothers, Harold, Joe and George; a sister, Marcella Mullarkey; two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Manning, and Dorothy Manning; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Collins, Ernest Blaskowski and Lawrence ìDukeî Walleser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin, IA, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial will be in St. Josephís Cemetery in New Albin. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the New Albin Community Center
The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.
