Ken Frank announces candidacy for sheriff

Ken Frank, chief deputy of the Houston County Sheriffís Office, has announced that he will be a candidate for Houston County Sheriff in the upcoming election.

ìI believe that it is essential that a Sheriff have a solid understanding of all aspects of the officeís operation,î Frank said in a press release. ìAs the current chief deputy, I run the day-to-day operations of the office, overseeing divisions such as civil process, criminal investigations, patrol and the jail. For the past several years I have been actively involved in setting the Sheriffís budget and maintaining that budget.î

Frank began working for the Houston County Sheriffís office in 1981 as a jailer dispatcher and in 1985, was licensed as a full-time police officer in Minnesota and promoted to Deputy Sheriff. In 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and in 2003, he was appointed chief deputy by then Sheriff Mike Lee, and reappointed as chief deputy in 2005, by current sheriff, Darryl Peterson.

Frank, a 1974 graduate of Caledonia High School, received an associate degree in Applied Science, from the University of Minnesota - Waseca in Agricultural Sales and Marketing in 1976.

In 1988, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice from Winona State University.

His career with the Houston County Sheriffís Office includes 320 hours of law enforcement skills at Alexandria Area Technical Institute in Alexandria, Minnesota and completing coursework through the Center of public Safety - Northwestern University on supervision of police personnel.

His law enforcement experiences include being a D.A.R.E. instructor for several years, working with the Southeast Minnesota Drug Task Force, and serving on the Board of Directors for the Houston County Crime Victim Services. He is actively involved with the Minnesota Sheriffís Association and is a member of the Minnesota Peace and Police Officerís Association.

Ken lives near Caledonia with is wife Jean (Heimerdinger). They have three children. Peter 20, and Matt 19 are both in college, and a daughter, Danielle, 17, is a junior at Caledonia High School.

Frank states, ìDuring my 25-year law enforcement career, I have gained the necessary skills and respect within the law enforcement community, other governmental agencies, and the public to serve as Houston County Sheriff.î
