Linda Grupa announced her resignation as Houston County Public Health Director at the May 9 county board meeting.

Grupa was not at the meeting. She wrote in a May 8 letter to the board that she would be pursuing educational opportunities.

ìI leave behind some dear friends and colleagues, and the sense that we have accomplished much good for the health of the people of Houston County,î she wrote.

Grupa held the job for 10 years. Her last day will be June 7.

Personnel director Tim Comstock said that if the board wanted to change the position, now would be a good time.

Board chairman Kevin Kelleher said that some counties have merged human services and public health, but they donít do home care, and that is an ìeconomic engineî for the county.

Comstock said that the health and human services committee will discuss what to do in the interim.

In other personnel items, the board approved hiring Justin Conway as a seasonal and temporary employee for the highway department. His wage will be $9.13 per hour.

The board also added Paula Rask to the on-call list of Veterans Service drivers to be used as needed for transporting veterans.
