Semcac held a party in Caledonia last week.
The community action agency put on the event at Caledonia United Methodist Church in honor of its 40th anniversary.
Planning director Jennifer Hengel said that Semcac is holding open houses in all seven counties that it serves. It is a way to thank the many volunteers and senior dining patrons, Hengel said.
Staff members get to meet each other too, she added. Semcac is based in Rushford, but has employees in many of its locations.
Senior citizens had a free meal, signed up for door prizes, and enjoyed music by piano students from Rose Weichertís class in the friendly fellowship hall of Pastor Tony Finkís church.
They could also view brochures of Semcac services, watch a video, and ask questions from several Semcac staff members.
There was a lot of good visiting too by Caledoniaís fine crop of senior citizens.
Semcac covers many areas, such as housing development, Head Start, senior services, Meals on Wheels, transportation, and nutrition.
Hengel said energy assistance is one of the most important components of her company. Semcac serves 6,000 household in that area, she said. ìThat really touches a lot of people.î
Senior dining is another big service, she added. There are five senior dining centers in Houston County: Caledonia, Eitzen, Houston, La Crescent, and Spring Grove.
