Hokah, Money Creek plats approved by county board

Houston County zoning administrator Bob Scanlan asked the county board to approve one conditional use permit (CUP) for Troy and Jennifer Winjum of Mayville Township to build a house on less than 40 acres at the May 16 meeting.

On April 27, the Board of Adjustment granted a variance of 127 feet to meet the required 150 feet of road frontage for a non-farm dwelling and a variance of 1,020 feet of the required 1/4-mile setback from an existing feedlot.

The board also approved two preliminary plats: Jim Feuerhelm of Hokah Township for a single lot subdivision on County 21 and Coulee Region Management of Mound Prairie Township for two lots in the Valley High subdivision.

The board was informed that the Planning and Zoning Commission had tabled three CUP permits at their meeting on April 27, pending further review or site visits. They were:

ï Tom Tollefsrud of Spring Grove Township to build a lean-to onto his sawmill, which is classified as a Level II Home Occupation;

ï Larry Ledebuhr of Mound Prairie Township to run an outdoor commercial recreation area/hunting preserve. He wants to raise whitetail deer in a 300 acre fenced-in area and allow hunters to pay to hunt his preserve; and

ï Scott Sanness of Wilmington Township, an expansion of an existing hog feedlot up to 480 animal units and construct a manure pit.

Environmental services director Rick Frank and Root River Soil and Water Conservation District (RRSWCD) manager Ralph Tuck recommended board approval of a wetland application for a certificate of no loss or exemption for a 12.47-acre parcel on Walcker Drive in Hokah Township along the Root River owned by the JR Strupp company of La Crosse, Wis.

Frank explained that the firm wishes to work in the upland area only to remove the topsoil and will avoid the wetland area. In the future they want to reclaim the wetland and will provide a separate application for that in the future.

Bear Creek Watershed

Tuck also asked for an extension of the project agreement between the county, the RRSWCD and the USDA for the Bear Creek Watershed floodwater structures.

The board had approved the initial application on September 2, 2005 but due to an easement issue for one of the proposed floodwater retarding structures on the Harold Stoen and Oscar Rosendahl properties the board needed to extend the application until the matter could be resolved.

The board approved the following zoning permits:

ï William Lynch of Mound Prairie Township- build agricultural pole shed (56' x 104');

ï Sheila Kelleher of Yucatan Township- build agricultural building (60' x 72');
