BASEBALL: Caledonia ended its baseball season last week with two losses in the Sub-Section 1AA tournament.
Caledonia, seeded #7, first lost to second-seeded St. Charles 10-0 on May 23 10-0 in 5 innings.
The team next lost to sixth seeded Plainview 9-7 on May 25 at Plainview.
The team ended its season with a 6-14 record.
TRACK: Both Caledonia/Spring Grove/Mabel-Canton finished fourth in the Sub-section 1A track meet in Caledonia on May 25.
The boys had 81 points; La Crescent won with 123. The girls had 76 points; Rushford-Peterson/Houston won with 147.
Other teams were Lanesboro/Fillmore Central, Winona Cotter, and Chatfield.
The top three place finishers in each individual event, and the top two relays, advance to the Section 1A meet. Those that meet the qualifying times or the 8th best performance in all of the sub-sections also advance.
The Section 1A meet is Tuesday and Thursday of this week at Stewartville High School.
Here are the top six C/SG/M-C finishers in each event at the sub-section. Girls results
ï 100 meter dash: Alecia Fruechte FIRST, 12.95; Laquita Becker SECOND, 13.11; Megan King FOURTH, 13.38.
ï 200 meter dash: Sarah Colleran FOURTH, 27.55; Laquita Becker, SIXTH, 27.87.
ï 400 meter dash: Sarah Colleran FIRST, 27.77.
ï 4x100 meter relay: Colleran, Megan King, Ashley King, Fruechte THIRD, 54.03.
ï 4x200 meter relay: Becker, Colleran, Megan King, Ashley King SECOND, 1:49.60.
ï 4x400 meter relay, Katie Wiste, Kayla McCormick, Brittany Wagner, Megan Buttell SIXTH, 4:41.95.
ï High jump: Fruechte SECOND, 4'.11.25".
ï Triple jump: Wiste THIRD, 33'08.50".
ï Shot put: Amelia Schaller THIRD, 36'05.50"; Molly Schaller SIXTH, 33'01.50".
ï Discus: A. Schaller FIRST, 122'09"; M. Schaller FOURTH, 109'10".
Boys results
ï 100 meter dash: Zach Gran FIRST, 11.01; Kevin Klug SECOND, 11.09; Clint Grabhorn FOURTH, 11.59. (Gran had the best time in the section, Klug had the second best time in the section, and Grabhorn had the fourth fastest time in the section.
ï 200 meter dash: Andy Marnach FIRST, 22.95; Lucas Nelson SIXTH, 24.09. (Marnach had the fastet time in the section.)
ï 400 meter dash: Luke Nelson SECOND, 53.41. (Nelson had the sixth fastest time in the section.)
ï 110 meter hurdles: Jesse Christian FIFTH, 19.35; Tyler Pynnonen SIXTH, 19.53.
ï 4x100 meter relay: Gran, Marnach, Grabhorn, Klug SECOND, 44.93. (This was the 2nd fastest time in the section.)
ï 4x200 meter relay: Gran, Nelson, Klug, Marnach FIRST, 1:33.04. (This was the fastest time in the section.)
ï 4x400 meter relay: David Jergenson, Derek Beir, Christian, Eddie Hodges FOURTH, 3:59.99.
ï 4x800 meter relay: Nick Wagner, David Jergenson, Hesse, Mehus FIFTH, 10:03.16.
ï Long jump: Hodges FOURTH, 19'04". (This was 13th best in the section.)
ï Shot put: Andrell Hudson SECOND, 46'02". (This was 8th best in the section.)
SOFTBALL: Spring Grove/Caledonia went scoreless against St. Charles in the sub-section semi-finals on May 24. Final score was 5-0.
St. Charles had earlier lost to Plainview, and SG/C fell to Winona Cotter. Cotter and St. Charles both beat Plainview to face each other in the finals Saturday, May 27.
GIRLS GOLF: The Caledonia/ Spring Grove girls golf team sailed to a first-place finish in the sub-section golf tournament held at Cedar River Country Club in Adams on May 23.
The top four C/SG golfers shot under 100; only one other golfer in the entire tournament managed a double-digit score.
Janelle Lilliquist emerged as medalist with an impressive score of 85. Katelynn Hauser had 89; Kelsey Kruse shot a 91 and Laura Roesler ended the round with a score of 94.
The team was to travel to Adams again Tuesday night, May 30, for the section meet.
BOYS GOLF: The Caledonia/Spring Grove boys golf team tied with Southland for second place at Section 1AA subsections on May 23. The event was played at Cedar River Golf Course in Adams.
ìWe golfed well that day but couldnít pull off the upset,î said coach Mitch Mulllins. ìWe were only one stroke down after the first nine to Rushford/Peterson. We just couldnít keep the pace. We finished second, 10 strokes behind R-P.î
Team scores were Rushford-Peterson 327; C/SG, 337; La Crescent 348; Chatfield 375; Fillmore-Central 390; Houston 420; Mabel-Canton 420.
Eglinton and Craig Loeffler were named to all-conference.
In the team standings, C/SG tied for second with Southland and had a 7-3 record for the season.
