Hilary Allen

Hilary P. Allen, 95, of Caledonia, died Thursday, November 16, 2006 at his home.

Hilary Penwarren Allen was born January 17, 1911 to Albert and Agnes (Gagen) Allen in Newburg Township, Fillmore County. The family moved to Caledonia in 1919 where he graduated from St. Johnís High School.

On November 11, 1937, he married Laura Bunge in Winona.

In 1930 he purchased his farm and was a purebred Jersey breeder. He operated a dairy until 1980. Hiliary continued to manage his farm until his death.

In 1944 he helped to organize the Democratic Farm Labor Party, was a charter member of that group.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in local saddle clubs.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Elaine) of La Crosse, Michael (Mary) of Viroqua, two daughters, Sharon (Lauren) Dison of Rochester, Joni (Joe) Deufel of Austin, one brother, Stanley (Arvilla) of Cresco, IA; twelve grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Carol Schneider, a grandson, David Huseby and three sisters, Sr. Mary Lorraine, OSF, Theresa Schieffer, and Audrey Hanson.

A mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church before the service. Memorials may be given to SEMCAC Food Shelf, St. Maryís Church, or the Knights of Columbus.

McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
