Ambulance director resigns

By Jane Palen
Managing editor

At its meeting of November 13, the Caledonia City Council accepted the resignation of Robert Augedahl, an ambulance director for 20 years.

ìIt is with mixed emotions that I resign as Ambulance Director,î Augedahl said in his letter of resignation. ìIt has been an honor and a privilege to have served as an EMT and Ambulance Director for the past 20 years.î

Augedahl explained that he has accepted a new job at Gundersen Lutheran and will not be able to devote enough time to the position of director. He plans to continue as an EMT.

The council accepted his resignation, which is effective November 30.

Bids accepted on

electrical building

The city opened bids for the new electrical department building that will be built at the Industrial Park.

Caledonia Lumber was the successful bidder with a bid of $109,006. Colsch Building Specialists had the second lowest bid at $111,525. Olympic Builders had a bid of $121,400 and John Esch Construction bid $126,889.

The successful bidder for the foundation was Bernau Concrete at $58,400.

Zoning administrator Mike Gerardy said that the concrete work should be completed by December 29, and the building by February 10, 2007.

Valentines Dance planned

In other business, the council heard plans for a Valentines Dance from Deb Schellsmidt, who asked permission to hold the dance at the city auditorium on February 17. Schellsmidt said she plans on hiring a band and serving a buffet-style dinner. She said she plans to charge $45 per couple and will make a donation to the city with the proceeds from the event. The council gave its approval to the plan.

City will pay less for auditing

The cityís quote from Tostrud and Temp for the annual year-end audit will be $16,000 to $18,000 this year. Last year, the price tag was $19,900. The reduction, explained city clerk Robert Nelson, is because the newly-hired city accountant, Stephanie Mann, has been making many of the entries that the auditing firm has had to make in the past.

The council accepted the quote.
