Ely elected Houston County Sheriff;
Hendel leads school board write-ins
Doug Ely defeated Chief Deputy Ken Frank to become the next Houston County Sheriff. The final count was 4,862 to 3,959.
In another county race, treasurer Audrey Petersen survived a challenge from Jane Schiltz 4,891 to 3,648.
In Commissioner District 2, Larry Connery received 918 votes, and Randy Steinfeldt, 482.
In Caledonia, council members Randi Vick and Paul Fisch kept their seats, as did Mayor Mike Morey.
SCHOOL BOARD
The four candidates who filed for Caledonia School Board were elected.
For the four year terms, Charlie Wray received 2,012 votes; Naomi Fruechte 1,980; and Michelle Werner 1,922. For the two year term, Joyce Knutson received 2,302 votes.
Matt Hendel received the most write-in votes for the four-year position for which no one filed. Hendel received 154 of 302 votes. The school board meets on November 8 at 7 p.m. to canvas the votes. They are required to offer the write-in position to the top vote recipient. Hendel has said publicly that he will accept it if offered.
