Ellsworth Klug

Ellsworth ìElsieî B. Klug, 85 of Caledonia died Monday, November 6, 2006 at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, LaCrosse.
He was born July 15, 1921 in Caledonia to Leonard and Emma (Schleich) Klug. Elsie was a 1938 graduate of Loretto High School in Caledonia. He was a WWII veteran, serving as a mechanic in the Army Air Corps and he was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
On December 27, 1944 he married Marie Matushek in Chicago, IL. She preceded him in death July 27, 1974.
Elsie worked as a mechanic at Weichert Motors, Caledonia and he owned his own school bus until he moved with his family to Florida in 1953. He returned to Caledonia in 1956 and worked as a brick mason for Fowler and Hammer in La Crosse for 30 years, until his retirement in July 1986.
He married Helen (Eikens)Ý Koenig November 8, 1985 at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. ÝIn his retirement he became a meticulous cabinet maker.

Elsie was a member of St. Maryís Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Pearl Harbor Survivorís Association, 50 year member of American Legion PostÝ191, and VFW Post 3188 and a member ofÝÝthe ÝBricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local # 1, La Crosse.

He is survived by his wife Helen of Caledonia; one son, Tony (Gerry) of Caledonia, three daughters, Roberta (David) Galer of Fennimore, WI; Pam (Steve) Savitsky of Oakdale, CT, and Manon (Tom) Hoscheit of Caledonia; four stepchildren, Tom (Gayle) Koenig of Minnesota City, MN; Susan (Roger) Burg of Caledonia; Evelyn (James) Ananis of Waltham, MA, and Nancy Steele of Caledonia; 12 grandchildren, a sister, Mary (Howard) Meyer of La Crescent, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Klug of Caledonia.

In addition to his first wife Marie, he was preceded in death by a brother Rainer Klug and a granddaughter, Marie Hoscheit.

Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, November 10, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif and Father LeRoy Eikens will concelebrate and burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends called from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, November 9 at Holy Family Hall.

Memorials may be given to St. Maryís Building Fund.

McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
