Teff, Kruger plead not guilty

Joshua Patrick Teff, 23, Dorchester, Iowa, plead not guilty in Third District Court on October 2 to several charges related to a traffic incident last month.

No trial date had been set as of October 9.

Teff is charged with fleeing a police officer, a felony, and three misdemeanors: obstructing the legal process; driver allowing open bottle; and no proof of insurance.

The incident occurred on September 16 in Caledonia. Teff allegedly refused to get out of his vehicle after being stopped in Caledonia by officer Allan Johnson at about 11:30 p.m. He drove to the end of Grant Street and left the vehicle. Officers found the unoccupied vehicle, but were not able to locate him. Teff later turned himself in. He is free on $2,500 bond, and was released from jail.

Kruger pleads not guilty

Brian Anthony Kruger, 32, Houston, pled not guilty on October 4 to felony domestic assault.

He was charged on August 25 after a domestic disturbance in the city of Houston two days earlier.

Kruger was also charged with gross misdemeanor interference with 911 call and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault. He is free on $15,000 bail.

A trial date had not been set as of October 9.

Marijuana case update

Jacob Paul Markee, 24, Rochester, made his first court appearance on October 6 for charges related to a marijuana bust last year. He requested a public defender and was released on several conditions


Judge James Fabian also set a Rule 8 hearing for Monday, October 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Markee was charged on September 21 with with possession, production and/or cultivation of a controlled substance in the third degree, and liability for crimes of another.

A search warrant at his home on September 20, 2005, found marijuana, $14,000 cash, packaging materials, and books and magazines about growing marijuana.

Authorities received some information in a phone conversation that Markee had with Patrick Daniel Dingley, 38, Rochester, the criminal complaint states.

Dingley and Mark Casey Richmond, 39, Houston, were charged in the case last year. Richmond pled guilty on October 9. A sentencing has not yet been set.

A plea hearing date for Dingley is set for December 4 at 11:15 a.m.

The three men are accused of growing 286 marijuana plants in three different groves on U.S. Fish and Wildlife land and the Gillette property near the Root River in rural Hokah Township.
