Helen Wiste

Helen Ann (Von Moos) Wiste, age 73, of Black Hammer, rural Spring Grove, died October 18, 2006, at her home.

She was born May 22, 1933, in La Crescent, to John and Viola (Evans) Von Moos. She grew up at Southridge, near La Crescent. She attended country school and graduated from Houston High School in 1951.

On February 9, 1952 she married Robert Wiste. The couple farmed in Black Hammer. Helen was a very active member of Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer. She was a treasurer of the church and was active in 4-H and received the Friend of 4-H Award. She was a member of the Ladiesí Card Club, the 1951 classmates, and the Garden Club.

Helen is survived by three sons: Daniel (Cheryl), Michael (Jennifer), and Dean (Susan), all of Spring Grove; one daughter, Jeanne (Jeffrey) Custer of Lake City, MN, and 14 grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Lauren (Lucille) Von Moos of Houston; two sisters: Adeline Beckman of Houston and Fern (Ralph) Anderson of Bloomington, MN.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert on November 22, 2002, two brothers John Glenn and Lyle Earl, who died in infancy, and one brother-in-law, Freddie Beckman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer with Pastor Leonard Liptack officiating. Burial will be in the Faith Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
