General election next Tuesday
The general election is next Tuesday, November 7. Here is a summary of city, county, state, and school elections in the Caledonia area.
Minnesota Senate District 31: Brenda Johnson, I-R; Kevin Kelleher, Independent; Sharon Ropes, DFL. Incumbent Bob Kierlin did not file.
Minnesota House District 31B: Greg Davids (incumbent), I-R; Ken Tschumper, DFL.
Houston County
ï Commissioner district 2, Larry Connery and Randy Steinfeldt filed. Tom Knutson is running a write-in campaign. This is a four year term. Incumbent Kevin Kelleher did not file.
ï Commissioner, district 4 ñ Dave Corcoran, incumbent; four year term.
Elections for five county offices will take place: attorney, auditor, recorder, sheriff, and treasurer. All are four year terms.
ï Recorder ñ Beverly J. Bauer, incumbent;
ï Auditor ñ A. Peter Johnson, incumbent;
ï Attorney ñ Richard W. ìRickî Jackson, Jr, incumbent;
ï Sheriff ñ Ken Frank, Doug Ely;
ï Treasurer ñ Audrey M. Petersen, incumbent; and Jane Schiltz.
ï Root River Soil and Water Conservation Board of Supervisors: District 1 ñ Douglas W. Meyer, incumbent; District 2 ñ Tony Becker; Adolph C. Heimerdinger, incumbent.

Naomi Fruechte, Charlie Wray, and Michelle Werner filed for three of the four four-year school board openings. Joyce Knutson filed for the two-year position. The fourth vacancy will be the top write-in candidate if that person is willing to serve. If that person is not willing to serve, the board has the option of taking the person with the second number of votes or appointing someone else that is willing to serve.
City elections
Cities all have a mayor up for election for two year terms and two city council positions for four years. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Two cities, Brownsville and Hokah, have filings beyond incumbents.
In Brownsville, Steve Lee and Tim Serres (incumbent) filed for mayor. Chris Dvorak, Sharon Rohrer, Joe Serres (incumbent) and Pam Walhovd filed for the two council positions. Walhovd is filling out Jim Driscollís term.
In Hokah Kim Fordahl, Lance Ross (incumbent), and Kevin Walther (incumbent) filed for the two council positions. Jerry Martell and Mike Walsh Jr. (incumbent) filed for mayor. Martell is a former mayor of the city.
In Caledonia, the current mayor is Mike Morey. The two council people up for election are Paul Fisch and Randi Vick. All have filed for reelection, as well as Larry Salm and Matt Schellsmidt as challenger for council.
In Eitzen, current mayor Ron Meyer has filed for re-election. Three people will try for the two council seats, Jeff Merzenich (incumbent), Keith Meyer (incumbent), and Nick Schwartzhoff.
In Houston, incumbent Connie Krenzke filed for mayor and incumbents Joe Krage and Cheryl Sanden-Beth filed for council.
