BOYS SOCCER: Caledonia won its fifth boys soccer game in a row with a 4-0 victory at Winona Cotter on September 15.
The game featured two long goals in the first half, both on free kicks. Ryan Cody got the first one at 24 minutes, then Zach Rollins blasted one in 13 minutes later.
ìHe cracked up just a rocket,î coach Tom Krinke said of Codyís goal, which went in from about 35 yards out. ìThe goalie got a hand on it. But it was hit so hard that it went in.î

FOOTBALL: ìExtremely focused.î
Thatís how coach Carl Fruechte summed up Caledoniaís third straight high school football win last Friday.
Dover-Eyota wouldnít argue that after the 42-14 thrashing on their own field.
Caledonia exploded to a 28-0 first quarter lead behind a new found passing game. First it was a 54 yarder from Kody Moore to Simon Augedahl. They paired up for the next score too, a 15 yarder.

GIRLS SOCCER: An intense schedule has kept the CHS girlsí soccer team on the move, and things wonít be slowing down any time soon. The girls played a total of four games last week, and had another four to play between September 18 and 25.
Shut-out against Lake City
The girls traveled to Lake City on September 11 to play an enthusiastic team.
ìYou can tell that they are definitely enjoying themselves on the field,î said coach Sue Link.
All players saw significant time on the field before the game ended with a 14-0 score in Caledoniaís favor.
CHS 8, PEM 1
Another away game on Thursday, September 14, had the girls meeting Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
ìPlainview is an up and coming team,î said Link. ìThey donít hand over a game without a challenge. The had some speed up front, but we were able to control the game.î
e team met Dover-Eyota for the second time this season, and came away with another win. But unlike the previous game, the girls came out strong and stayed strong. In its first meeting against D-E, the team had scored just one goal at the half. The score was 6-0 at the end of the tournament game.
ìWe had nice clean passes,î said Link. ìIt was a game of finesse. Everyone got to play.î
Goals were contributed by Kayla McCormick, Sarah Colleran (two goals, both assisted by Bobbi Jo Schuttemeier), Erica Myhre (assist by Ellen Klug), Sara Kasten and McCormick (assist by Anna Wittry).
ìIt was a great team effort,î said Link.
The disappointment of the day came in the championship game with a 2-1 loss to La Crescent, the second of the season. It was especially frustrating because La Crescentís first goal was on a penalty kick. After that, the girls seemed to lose some intensity.
ìThey usually donít do that,î said Link. ìThey ran out of gas.î

VOLLEYBALL: It was a good week for the Caledonia volleyball team. After being down by two games early in their match with Winona, the team clawed their way to the win. Then, over the weekend, they rolled over all comers at the Waukon Tournament.
Caledonia 3, Winona 2
On Monday, September 11 the Warriors traveled to Winona and defeated them in five games: 9-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15, 15-12.
Waukon Tournament
Caledonia went 10-0 for the Waukon Tournament on Saturday, September 16.
ìThe girls passed the ball fantastic out of serve receive,î said Koepke. ìThe two teams we played in the semi finals and the finals, Desoto and Waukon, served the ball harder than any teams weíve faced this year and the girls handled them very well. I also thought we served the ball very well. We had 42 aces and 34 errors.
Pool Play:
North Crawford 21-10, 21-14
Crestwood 21-11, 21-17
MFL 21-10, 21-15
Semis:
Desoto 21-18, 21-11
Championship
Waukon 21-16, 21-14
