Fred Mauss
Fred J. Mauss, 89, of New Albin died ÝTuesday morning, Sept. 26 2006 at Thornton Manor in Lansing.
Fred was born on Gruber Ridge in Allamakee County on April 15, 1917, to George and Florence (Hammell) Mauss. He married Laurayne Murphy on October 15, 1947, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing IA.
He served in the Army during WWII in the African and Italian Theatres. Fred was a carpenter and managed the lumber yard in New Albin for many years. He loved beekeeping, hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. Fred was active in St. Josephís Church and the VFW.
Survived by his wife of 58 years, Laurayne of New Albin; 10 children, Robert (Dierdre) Mauss of New Orleans LA; Edward (Shirley) Mauss of Sioux Falls SD; Victor (Dolly) Mauss of Kennewick WA; Francis ìFrankî Mauss of Lansing; Daniel (Billie) Mauss of Kennewick WA; Paul (Kimberly) Mauss of Onalaska WI; Ellen Mauss of Madison WI; Rose (John) Borst of San Jose CA; Joan (Tim) LaMoreaux of Glenwood Springs CO; Jean Mauss of Des Moines IA; 20 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Mark Mauss of Waukon IA and Bernard (Lucille) Mauss of New Albin IA. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Beatrice Mauss of Lansing IA.
Fred was preceded in death by a brother, Connie Mauss, and a sister- in-law, Mary Mauss.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in New Albin where military rites will be accorded by the Kenneth Casey Post # 5603 of the VFW.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Community Center in New Albin where there will be a Parish Scripture Service at 4:15 p.m.
