Julia Schroeder
Julia Sylling Schroeder,İof Caledonia, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Caledonia Care and Rehab at the age of 102 years, 11 months, and 5 days.
She was born on October 19, 1903 in Sheyenne, ND, to Lars and Christine Sylling. Julia was baptized November 22, 1903 by Rev. Quamİat Greenfield Lutheran Church. Her family moved to Spring Grove, MN in 1910 whereİshe was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. A.O. Johnson. Julia graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1921 and then attended Winona State Teacherís College. She taught in rural schools in Houston County. On October 9, 1926, Julia married Hugo Schroeder. Mr. Schroeder purchased the Caledonia Bakery in 1927. After Hugo preceded Julia in death on August 20, 1941,İshe continued to operate the bakery until she sold it to the Joe Hemmer family. In 1957, Julia was appointed to the position of librarianİof the Caledonia Public Library. She served in this position for 27 years retiring in October of 1984. Julia was a member of St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia andİwas a formerİmember of the ladies aid and the church choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine and husband, Joseph Lee of Caledonia; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Julia was preceded in death by her parents; a great-granddaughter, Jean Louise Lee; a brother, Leonard Sylling; and three sisters, Gina Blegen, Cora Muller, and Alma Hagen.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 28, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Tom Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
