BOYS SOCCER: Caledonia splits its four games of last weekís busy boys soccer schedule.
The Warriors lost to Onalaska 1-0 in their home opener on August 29, than beat La Crosse Central 3-2 on the road two nights later.
They lost to Aquinas 3-1 on September 1, then beat Kasson-Mantorville at home 5-1 on September 2. The team is now 3-2.
GIRLS SOCCER: Coach Sue Link called the girlsí soccer match against Lourdes a ìgreat game,î even though the team loss 1-0 in overtime. With no score at the end of regulation play, the game went into overtime and Lourdes managed to get a shot by Caledoniaís Arie Albert at 4:59. Albert, an eighth grader, did a tremendous job in the goal throughout the whole game, making 20 saves for the Warriors.
VOLLEYBALL: Caledonia went the distance with five games but fell to Goodhue on Thursday, August 31, 24-26,31-29, 25-21, 20-25,13-15. Caledonia took third place out of 12 teams Saturday, September 1 in the Aquinas tournament. ìWe finished first in our pool and I was very proud of the girls for making it into the Gold division,î said coach Scott Koepke. In the play-offs Aquinas beat the Warriors 0-2 (19-25,16-25). ìI thought the girls really played some great defense and made some very strong swings at the ball,î said Koepke.
FOOTBALL: Caledonia started its 2006 high school football season in a familiar way ñ with a victory.
The Warriors, last yearís Class AA state runners-up, beat Plainview/Elgin-Millville (PEM) 16-6 in Plainview September 1.
The execution was great, but the playersí excitement and confidence were the highlight of the game for coach Carl Fruechte.
