Jean Bartelson Knox

Jean Knox, 70, of Caledonia, died Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Caledonia Care and RehabÝsurrounded by family members.

Jean was born January 24, 1936, in Hounslow, England, to Frederick and Minnie (Wilson) Groves. She grew up in England and on September 19, 1952, she married Milford Harley Bartelson. They moved to the United States in 1954. Jean was a military wife until 1971 when Milford retired from the Navy and the couple returned to Minnesota.
They moved to Caledonia in 1974. Jean operated a day care in the Caledonia area for twenty-five years.

Milford passed away on March 7, 1987.

On November 30, 1991 she married Ralph Knox at the Houston Baptist Church. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Caledonia, where she taught Sunday School andÝwas part ofÝthe ladies organization. Jean was also a member of the Red Hats of the Redwood.

Jean is survived by her husband, Ralph; four sons and two daughters, Larry (Ann) of Rushford, Gary (Robin) of Grand Forks, N.D., Sherry Massman-Bartelson of Caledonia,ÝDean (Loretta) of Caledonia, David (Amy) of Brice Prairie, WI, and Patricia BartelsonÝFoellmi, of Caledonia;Ý20 grandchildren;Ýnine great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister, Peter, David, and Joan Groves, all of England;Ýmother-in-law, Lula Adela Knox of West Union, IA; and a sister-in-law, Jean Groves of England.

In addition to her first husband, Milford, Jean is preceded in death by her parents;Ýa son, Daniel;Ýa great-granddaughter, Purity Rose Massman-Welch; aÝsister, Thelma Hunter, and a brother, Ronald Groves.Ý

A celebration of Jeanís life will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2006, atÝ1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Steven E. Meyer Ýwill officiate.ÝÝBurial will follow at the Swede BottomÝcemetery, rural Houston. Friends may call at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, on Saturday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Sunday fromÝ12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
